Craft or Crap?

So I’ve been seeing this awesome stuff on the DIY section of Pinterest, and being that I have craftiness/artistic talent in my family, I always think ‘Pschh, I could totally do that! Easy Peasy’.. And then I realize I greatly over estimated my abilities. I cry for a bit then get over it. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Here’s a project that I got inspiration for on Pinterest, and decided to do for my sisters birthday…. I bought glass etching junk at Michaels, got a set of inexpensive shot glasses at Ross, and I was good to go! Oh, right.. I forgot to mention the small detail of having to carve the design into tape (or something sticky.. I used blank shipping labels) to make a ‘stencil’. Here was the result.. Not too bad if I do say so myself!!!!

I used the one with the yellow bottom for The Lord of the Rings ‘JRR Tolkien’ symbol. I used the yellow to symbolize the One Ring to Rule Them All. She has an intense and nerdy love of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. (Fine, we both do)…

For my next trick, I took the blue bottom shot glass and my hand carved (with an exacto knife) stencil and did a Dr. Who symbol. It’s the D and the W in the shape of the Tardis. (Fine I kind of like that show, too)…

Here we have the Deathly Hallows symbol (representing the Cloak, the Wand and the Stone), and of course I had to use the Red shot glass to represent Gryffindor. Holy mother of NERD Batman!! Ok ok.. I’m a nerd. Especially a Harry Potter nerd. Don’t judge me.

And finally, to symbolize her love of Disneys The Little Mermaid (we both adore Disney, and since My sis is a Ginger too, she’s always identified with Ariel) I used the green shot glass and put a mermaid tail on it!!!

And thus concludes this episode of Craft or Crap: The ‘Drink it Like a Nerd’ Edition!!
